Five years ago much of the Miami Valley was recovering after two tornadoes tore through leaving a path of destruction. This was all part of a storm system which tore through over a dozen states stretching from Michigan to Texas.
Over 70 tornado reports came through the Storm Prediction Center that day, including five here in the Miami Valley, said StormCenter 7 Meteorologist Brett Collar.
Following a survey by the National Weather Service, it was determined that two tornadoes touched down in the Miami Valley. One near Celina and a second in Auglaize County.
The tornado near Celina was rated an EF-2. Meteorologists at the National Weather Service estimate it contained winds over 115 mph. The tornado left a damage path 30 yards wide and over four miles long.
The twister in Auglaize County was rated an EF-0 and contained winds of 80 mph.
