LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Preliminary reports indicate that three tornadoes touched down in eastern Nebraska and one in central Iowa on Monday.
The National Weather Service says there were two tornadoes in Lancaster County. Law enforcement reported one briefly touched down on the southeast edge of Lincoln. A barn was blown to the ground near Highway 2 and Pine Lake Road.
“The wind just kind of blew me away just watching it,” said Donald Slama of Lincoln.
A third touchdown was reported in Cass County near the Nehawka area.
The NWS took reports of baseball-sized hail in the area. Street flooding was also a problem in Lincoln. There were numerous reports of vehicles getting stalled in the water and drivers needing to be rescued. Emergency officials placed barricades around the city to prevent vehicles from driving into flooded streets.
A small, rope tornado touched down west of Guthrie Center, Iowa a little after 8 p.m. The twister did not hit any populated areas and there are no reports of damage or injuries. Guthrie Center is about 60 miles west of Des Moines.
