A cluster of severe thunderstorms prompted warnings of tornadoes and “ping pong ball size hail” from the national weather agency.
Environment Canada had issued warnings that tornadoes could possibly form in a number of regions, including Ottawa, Kingston, Arnprior, Smiths Falls and Tweed and Gatineau, Que.
Warnings of thunderstorms are “capable of producing very strong wind gusts and nickel to ping pong ball size hail,” were also issued for many regions in eastern Ontario before before 9 p.m.
Ottawa remains under a severe thunderstorm watch and a heat warning.
