Monday night’s storm that hit O’Neil Creek Campground along with Irene and Al Pryzbylski’s property in the town of Eagle Point has been classified as a EF-0 tornado by the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
The tornado had wind speeds up to 75 mph, lasted for a half-mile and had a width of one-eighth of a mile.
There was no tornado warning before the storm hit, said Mike Griesner, a meteorologist with the weather service. The tornado hit about the time the main line of a weather complex was moving into Hudson.
“This lead cluster did nothing until O’Neil Creek Campground,” Greisner said.
“That was one isolated point where there was damage.”
That can happen when you have a weaker tornado, he said.
An EF-0 tornado has winds of up to 85 mph. Most years the weather service in Chanhassen records between 10 to 20 EF-0 tornadoes in the area the service covers.
There were five tornadoes on Monday alone.
The worst came in the town of Watkins, Minnesota, and northwest of Litchfeld, Minnesota. Both were classified as EF-2 tornadoes. The Watkins storm had winds up to 125 mph and went up to two miles. The Litchfield storm had maximum winds of 115 mph and lasted one mile.
