The process of replacing an Apison tornado memorial is underway.
The memorial was built in 2012 in memory of people killed in the 2011 tornadoes.
Police say a suspected drunk driver crashed into the memorial back in June.
The crash caused significant damage to the memorial and the flagpole.
Those who helped raise the money to build the monument say they’ve planned a fundraiser to start the process to replace it.
They say they want to make the new memorial even better than the last.
“We had one flag here before we’re hoping to have a Tennessee flag and an American flag. We’re hoping to put some new sod in. We’re wanting to put a sprinkler system in and maybe some better landscaping in with the bushes,” said Bill Hullander.
Hullander says the first fundraiser will be this Sunday at 6 p.m. there will an old fashion hymnal singing.
The Modern Woodman of America plan to match up to 25 hundred dollars.
