CAMERON, Illinois – July 16, 2016 marks 1 year since a EF-2 tornado ripped through the community of Cameron, destroying most of the town.

Jeff Harshbarger remembers the scary sight he saw a year ago as a tornado ripped through.

“You never thought that this was gonna happen in a small town that you live in, you never think it’s gonna be you,” said Harshbarger.

His yard reminds him over and over again of that day.

“We’ve had to have the new roof put on, new siding and they’ve had to take it off and put it back on and so we’re trying to get all that re-done,” said Harshbarger.

Now, he’s got a different view of the town from his yard with his neighbors house gone and the grain bins now just a pile of concrete.

A year later they’re now building new grain bins a couple of blocks down the road.

“It looks a lot different then it used to, Cameron, it will just never be the same Cameron that we knew years ago,” said Harshbarger.

It’s been a long road for him and his community but he said it’s only made them stronger.

“It`s drawn our community closer we kinda look out for each other a little bit more than what we did before the tornado hit,” said Harshbarger.
