ADAIR COUNTY, Okla. (KTUL) —

Several buildings were damaged and at least one was destroyed after storms and a tornado ripped through the small town of Greasy Monday night.

A community building in the heart of Greasy is still standing but their storage shed has major damage. People who live there said a snack bar and pavilion on the grounds were also leveled.

The area is owned by the Cherokee Nation.

Police tell us the building is used mainly for events and is not used every day although senior citizens are fed there three times a week.

Police say crews responded to a report of a gas leak in town but the incident involved a propane tank near the community building and it’s not clear exactly what happened. Roads were closed while crews responded and people who live nearby were asked to stay inside their homes.

Community members told our crews on scene at least two homes were damaged and many had downed trees.

People from around the area came to help out their neighbors during the cleanup.
