PROSPERITY, S.C. (WACH FOX NEWS) — The National Weather Service of Columbia and the Newberry County Emergency Service confirms that a tornado did touch down in Prosperity, S.C. on Wednesday.
The tornado has been classified as an EF2 category and having speeds of at least 110-mph.
Crews spent much of Thursday assessing the estimated 10-mile track of damage left behind from Saluda to Newberry counties in an effort to determine the full strength and distance the tornado ranged.
“This is probably almost the exact track we had in a previous tornado coming through. Almost exactly so unfortunately in the Prosperity area they’ve seen a lot of this,” says Newberry County Emergency Services Coordinator Tommy Long.
“We do see areas that are prone whether it’s topographical where you have areas that have additional conversions due to the topography and this is a hilly area. Also, we see differences in soil type,” explains the National Weather Service’s Richard Okulski.
No injuries or deaths have been reported from this Prosperity tornado.
