Syracuse, N.Y. — The National Weather Service has confirmed a third tornado hit Western New York on Thursday.
The third tornado touched down in the town of Angelica, in Allegany County, about 1:40 p.m. Thursday. It had a maximum wind speed of 95 mph.
No one was hurt or injured, but the weather service reported that: “Several homes were damaged. A barn was severely damaged. Several sheds or small outbuildings were tipped and moved. Numerous large trees were shredded and downed. Some fell, causing additional structural damage.”
The Angelica tornado was rated EF-1, the second-lowest ranking of tornadoes. It was about 300 yards wide and traveled for 4.2 miles.
“Based on radar and spotter reports, two thunderstorms merged and intensified and produced a tornado that extended from the town of Allen across the town of Angelica to the town of West Almond,” the weather service said.
A fourth suspected tornado is being investigated in Steuben County, about 30 miles west of Corning, by the weather service’s Binghamton office.
