In the Houston area people prepared for rain and possible flooding in the wake of Harvey, but one neighborhood got more than they bargained for. A tornado skipped across Sienna Plantation around 1:00 a.m. Saturday.

“It sounded like a freight train,” said Jim Rose, who woke up when the tornado hit. “It’s just gonna be hard to rebuild.”

Rose’s home escaped major damage, but his once manicured yard looked like a jungle. “So you gotta be real happy when all you got is a roof leak and trees down,” Rose said.

From Rose’s house, you can see trees down, windows blown out, and roofs torn off his neighbor’s homes.

“Can you imagine coming home and realizing, wow, everything is knocked out,” asked one volunteer who came to help clean up.

Chain saws echoed through the neighborhood that sits 30 minutes southwest of downtown Houston. They prepared for rain and possible flooding, but a tornado was more than any of them bargained for.

“I’ve never experienced one and thought I had made it through life without experiencing one,” joked Rose. “One’s enough!”
