ST. EDWARD — A line of strong thunderstorms triggered by a cold front that swept across eastern Nebraska on Monday spawned a brief tornado in Boone County.
The National Weather Service in Valley reports the weak tornado formed shortly before midnight about 4 miles northwest of St. Edward.
The EF0 twister, with estimated peak winds of 85 mph, was about 20 yards wide and stayed on the ground for 0.4 miles, damaging grain bins, a farm outbuilding and crops, according to the National Weather Service.
The storms also produced heavy rain and hail up to ping pong ball-sized.
