BALDWIN COUNTY, AL (WALA) –
The National Weather Service said an EF-0 tornado touched down in Foley. Anchors Aweigh RV Resort got the worst of it Sunday afternoon.
Martha and Jerry Wright could hear the roar as the twister passed over their camper.
“I was terrified. I was holding on. There was nothing we could do. We couldn’t get out. We wouldn’t want to get out,” Martha said.
“We both tried to get everything secure as fast as we could and our coach was shaking violently. Finally got our slides in and it was over,” Jerry said.
The strength of the tornado flipped five campers on their side, sent four people to the hospital and left the RV resort in disarray.
“We had at least two of those RV’s with people entrapped that were somewhat mobile, but hadn’t been able to get their way out. So we did remove three victims that had serious enough injuries to be transported,” Foley Fire Chief Joey Darby said.
The Wright’s watched it all unfold.
“They had to break the windows out and lift them out. One out the back and one out the door and the door was up in the air,” Jerry said.
Authorities said one victim suffered serious injuries.
