An intense thunderstorm rolled through portions of Box Elder County on Thursday, May 17th. The storm spawned some funnel clouds which were spotted in a few different locations.

According to Box Elder County Public Information Officer Mitch Zundel, county officials received three calls reporting tornadoes near Park Valley, Curlew Junction and Snowville.

“The first two may be one in the same,” Zunel clarifies in a release.

Terry and Bella Helms are residents of Park Valley and caught one of the funnel clouds on video.

“It’s a twister!” Terry is heard saying while filming the funnel cloud.

The video shows a thin, snaking funnel cloud descending from dark clouds. The funnel cloud reportedly touched down briefly.

“The third report fits a real intense cell which crossed over into Idaho right near Snowville,” Zundel continues. “The radar imagery was marked with tornado warnings from the weather service at that time.”

He says the county also received reports of golf ball-sized hail in those same areas of strong thunderstorms. There are no current reports of property damage or injury.
