(ABC 6 News) — A very weak tornado touched down shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday in Fillmore County, according to Sheriff Tom Kaase.
The storm tore the roof off a large shed on an abandoned farm site, scattering debris up to a half-mile away. Roof tin was found in a tree; shed poles were pulled out of the ground. No other buildings in the area, which is about five miles southeast of Greenleafton, were damaged.
Sheep and cattle on the site were uninjured, Kaase said.
A neighbor told authorities she heard a loud humming noise and began to record the storm. The video showed rotation.
The woman said she saw a piece of the tin roof “floating” in the air.
The National Weather Service in La Crosse initially indicated there was no tornadic activity in the area, but after reviewing the video and photos, they considered the event to be an EF-0 tornado.
An EF-0 rating is classified as a “weak,” tornado, with speeds of 60 to 85 mph.
