UPTON, Mass. — The National Weather Service has confirmed that two EF-1 tornadoes touched down in central Massachusetts.
The Weather Service says the tornadoes that swept through parts of Worcester County early Thursday brought maximum winds of about 100 miles per hour. Tornadoes of that level usually bring moderate damage.
Meteorologists say the first tornado touched down in East Douglas, and then headed to Uxbridge before ending in the southern part of Northbridge.
The Weather Service says the second tornado touched down in Upton and lasted for a mile. It says most of the damage was in the neighborhood of Ephraim’s Way.
The overnight storms toppled trees and power lines and damaged some homes. No injuries were reported.
