WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down for two minutes in the Hampstead area Sept. 15, 2018.
The EF-0 tornado had an estimated wind speed of 85 mph and caused damage for a half mile path.
According to the NWS, the tornado started in the woods southeast of Great Oak Drive in the Deerfield community and moved across to East Creek View Drive before it lifted over a Tidal Creek.
The tornado mainly snapped trees as it moved quickly toward the northwest and flipped a boat onto a car.
The NWS is reporting the tornado damaged a detached garaged and also flipped a boat dock on the Tidal Creek before lifting.
No one was injured during the tornado.
