National Weather Service confirms tornado in West Seneca

West Seneca, N.Y. (WKBW) – The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado with winds estimated between 65 and 75 mph damaged a condo complex in West Seneca.

Around 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, neighbors on Greenmeadow Drive in West Seneca reported seeing a funnel cloud touch down, which in turn, caused severe damage to one unit of the Park Meadow Condominiums.

Parts of the roof, columns of porches, shutters, tree limbs, a satellite dish and debris littered the front and back parts of the complex. Severe damage of the roof caused leaking into the homes. Contractors were on scene trying to tarp the roof.

West Seneca Police released this statement reading in part, “during a rainstorm a funnel cloud touched on Greenmeadow Drive…the event was witnessed by a resident…who stated she saw a funnel cloud touch down…”

On 10/20/2018 at about 1358 hours during a rain storm a funnel cloud touched on Greenmeadow Drive in the Town of West Seneca. The event was witnessed by a resident of Greenmeadow Drive who stated she saw a funnel cloud touch down in the area of 211 Greenmeadow and uproot a tree in the front yard, then continue in a easterly direction before touching down on a condominium complex located between 221 and 235 Greenmeadow where it tore a substantial portion of the roof off the building. Debris from the roof damaged an adjacent garage to the condominium. There were no reported injuries. The West Seneca Building Inspector responded and deemed the living space of the building habitable. He is now in the process of making arrangements for emergency enclosure for the roof of the condominium. Damage was also sustained to 217 Greenmeadow Drive.

The National Weather service confirms that it was an EF0 tornado.
