WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Tornado sirens started going off in Trumbull County at 10:30 Tuesday morning — five minutes after the National Weather Service says an EF-1 tornado touched down in the Bazetta area.
Trumbull County 911 Center Director Ernest Cook said at 10:27, they started receiving several 911 calls from people who reported seeing rotation. He said the NWS never alerted them like it typically does when there’s the possibility for a tornado.
Cook said they consulted with the National Weather Service before setting off the sirens they have access to across the county.
“At that point and time…we both agreed we should err on the side of caution and set off the county tornado sirens.”
A tornado warning wasn’t issued for Trumbull County, but the National Weather Service later issued a tornado warning for Mercer County just before 11 a.m.
The National Weather Service said winds peaked between 95 and 100 miles per hour. The tornado was on the ground for 4.5 miles and had a maximum width of 75 yards.
No one was hurt.
