A tornado reportedly touched down early Thursday morning and damaged several homes in a community in Lake County, Florida, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
“It appears that around 5:40 a.m., a thunderstorm containing a possible tornado moved through Lake County about 4 miles to the northwest of the town of Mascotte,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Bill Deger.
The unconfirmed tornado was spotted near the intersection of Tuscanooga and Honeycut roads, which is where the local sheriff’s office reported damaged properties along with downed power lines and trees.
“This storm was in association with a cold front that cut through central Florida earlier this morning, bringing heavy rain and strong winds,” Deger said.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued tornado and severe thunderstorm advisories and warnings for parts of central Florida due to the threat of potentially severe weather.
Some warnings urged people to seek shelter toward the middle of their homes to avoid injuries from high winds and possible hail, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Sheriff’s deputies have not reported any related deaths as of Thursday morning.
