Eden was hammered by high winds and heavy rains that hit Rockingham County before daybreak Friday. The EF1 tornado hit western North Carolina about 3:15, toppling trees and damaging homes
and businesses in Eden. The storm also downed power lines, leaving a number of Duke Energy customers without electricity. A building was leveled on Kennedy Street in Eden. Several cars lie
beneath the rubble. Cunningham Tire on Kennedy Street suffered significant damage in the storm. Emergency crews reported no serious injuries. Downed trees led to a number of road closures,
but Kings Highway, Stadium Drive and Meadow Road were all open Friday morning and Highway 14 was cleared of trees. Rockingham County Emergency Management, Rockingham County EMS and Eden
Rescue Squad are working with the city of Eden to clear trees and remove debris from the roadways.
