The storm that caused serious damage to several buildings over the weekend along a Garrard County ridge has been classified as a tornado, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado was small and brief, but it knocked a shed off its foundation, flipped another outbuilding and tore the outer wall from a house near Gillespie Pike, according to the National Weather Service. The tornado also tore the roof off a garage and stripped the walls off another outbuilding.
The tornado was on the ground for about a tenth of a mile starting at 12:50 a.m. Sunday and reached maximum winds of 95 to 100 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. At its largest size, the tornado was about 100 yards wide, the weather service reported.
No injuries were reported in the Garrard County storm.
The tornado was classified as an EF-1 on the enhanced Fujita scale, which measures damage. An EF-1 tornado is considered moderate, with EF-0 storms being the weakest and EF-5 tornadoes being the strongest.
In western Kentucky, more severe storms were reported.
A storm in Logan County that was confirmed Monday as an EF-2 tornado killed Dallas Jane Combs, 79, Logan County Coroner Mary Givens said Sunday.
Two others were killed in western Kentucky by flooding.
