Another confirmed tornado occurred in Connecticut on Saturday and this time it was in Woodstock, Conn. which is near the Massachusetts border. Woodstock is a town in Windham County. The population is about 8,000 people.
According to the National Weather Service, a confirmed tornado occurred on the west side of Woodstock and two corn fields were damaged, an oak tree split in two, and the “initial estimates of a path length of one-block, a width of 8 yards…” Woodstock joins several other Connecticut communities that had confirmed tornadoes the past few months including Southbury/Oxford, Hamden and Beacon Falls, Barkhamsted, and Winsted. And while Brookfield didn’t have a confirmed tornado it was still devastated by a severe storm in May. Most recently, Ashford had a confirmed tornado last month. This is now the sixth confirmed tornado in Connecticut since the middle of May.
A tornado was also confirmed for Webster, Massachusetts, which is right over the Connecticut border and significant destruction occurred there.
In southeastern Connecticut, several inches of rain, thunderstorms and flooding concerns were reported. The entire state saw heavy rain at times and flooding concerns. The rain has moved on and Sunday will be sunny but very hot with temps into the 90s.
