DEERFIELD, Wis. (WMTV) – The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Deerfield on Thursday, August 9th. And around 11 a.m. on Friday, August 10th the National Weather Service categorized this tornado as an EF-0. The wind speed was reported to be 80 miles per hour and the length of the tornado’s path was reported to be 0.70 miles.
The tornado was strong enough to cause some damage, structural damage on Main Street. The roof was damaged on the International Machinery Exchange Building and some tree branches flew into yards.
The severe wind and the tornado was reported to only have touched down for about four minutes.
Tim Halbach from the National Weather Service said they are going to assess how strong the tornado was by following the path of destruction and there is a certain threshold of strength depending on what was damaged. He said they will look for objects that were moved as well, to tell how fast the winds were going. And he said they are going to take a look at the radar of the storm from last night as well.
The three employees who were inside of the International Machinery Exchange were not injured and made it out safely. One employee, Paul Nehring, who was inside when the tornado struck went back inside the building this morning and described it as, “a mess.”
“Insulation is everywhere, parts of the roof, the wood, lumber the garage doors are twisted up, it’s just all thrown all over the place,” Nehring said.
The Vice President of Operations for International Machinery Exchange said that he is not concerned that the damages will impact business.
