A crew from the National Weather Service in Tallahassee has confirmed a small tornado caused much of the storm damage that occurred in Dothan Sunday morning.
According to the NWS, a tornado measuring EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita scale touched the ground in downtown Dothan near the city cemetery, where several tombstones were overturned. The storm moved northeast for a mile, causing downed trees and limbs and some awning damage before lifting.
An EF0 tornado is one with winds of between 60 and 85 miles per hour, causing light damage. The twister touched down at 10:33 a.m. Sunday. There was no tornado warning issued. A severe thunderstorm warning had been issued at 10:03 a.m.
Strong straight-line winds appeared to cause damage in other parts of the city, leading to more downed trees, limbs, and power outages.
