NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Friday’s storms brought eight tornadoes to the area, SkyWatch 17 Chief Meteorologist Katy Morgan reports.
With high winds and heavy rain striking the midstate, several counties were under Tornado Warnings or Severe Thunderstorm Warnings as well as a FOX 17 News Code Red Weather Alert.
1.EF-1 in Hillsdale, Ky.
A tornado struck Hillsdale, Ky. in Simpson County at 7:35 p.m. The EF-1 with 90 mph peak winds touched down near I-65. Storm surveyors discovered a blend of straight line winds and a small area of a tornado.
The tornado traveled 0.6 miles and carried a max width of 75 yards. Neighbors in the Salem Rd. area were hit the hardest with extensive tree damage. Crews also noted distinct circulations in a wheat field.
2.EF-1 in Mount Aerial, Ky.
Close to the Tennessee/Kentucky line, people in Mount Aerial, Ky. in Allen County also took cover from an EF-1 tornado. The tornado with a path length of 4.6 miles and a width of 125 yards struck the area at 7:39 p.m. with 95 mph winds.
Allen County Emergency Management Teams joined by the National Weather Service recorded straight line wind damage facing the east and southeast directions. Officials believe the tornado went across western Allen County parallel to KY 585 and touched down near the Horseshoe Ford Rd. and Horseshoe Bend Rd. intersection.
Twisted trees, an uplifted barn and a farmer’s field of corn completely flattened were just a few reports of the damage in the Horseshoe Bend Rd. area.
Softwood and hardwood trees were also snapped along Mayhew and Pope Rd. especially close to the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church.
3.EF-0 in Davidson County
Moving into Tennessee, Davidson County residents noticed impacts from an EF-0 tornado in the Antioch area. Described as small and brief by NWS, the tornado touched down at the intersection of Anderson Rd. and Country Way Rd. at 8:04 p.m. before taking a U-shape path and passing through Oak Trees Court, Country Meadow Drive, Country Meadow Court, Country Lawn Drive, Towne Village Rd., Fall Court, Dove Creek Rd., and Huntinsboro, according to the NWS.
In its 1.25-mile path, the strong tornado with peak winds of 85 mph left uprooted trees and roof damage to homes.
4.EF-1 in Herndon, Ky.
Two EF-1 tornadoes glided through Christian County, Ky. near Herndon and Gracey.
Herndon’s EF-1 touched down at 6:38 p.m. with estimated peak winds of 105 mph. The storm with a path length of 0.6 miles and a 175-yard width damaged eight to 10 homes, according to the NWS. A small guest home was crushed, but most homes mostly had roof damage.
5.EF-1 in Gracey, Ky.
With an estimated 100 mph winds, and EF-1 plowed through parts of Gracey, Ky. at 6:31 p.m. The 0.9-mile tornado with a width of 75 yards demolished three empty grain silos. High winds uprooted trees and unroofed a home in parts.
6.EF-1 in Fentress County
The NWS confirms EF-1 tornado damage in Fentress County. Picking up in eastern Allardt at 9:24 p.m. the EF-1 traveled three miles to Rugby with 90 mph winds.
The tornado touched down in the Stockton community and lifted a few barns and outbuildings. NWS reports that a home narrowly missed being demolished as trees snapped along the tornado’s path.
7.EF-1 Macon County
With 90 mph winds, the NWS confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Macon County near Lafayette stretching 1.7 miles. The “short but intense” tornado in northern Macon County touched down at Green Valley Rd. at 8:07 p.m. and shifted across Oak Knob Rd. onto Underwood Rd. before lifting, the NWS reports. Surveyors say falling trees, barns and a few homes received damage.
8.EF-1 Trigg County, Ky.
An EF-1 tornado reported at 6:22 p.m. swept across eastern Trigg County near Cadiz. The tornado trekked 5.1 miles with estimated wind speeds of 95 mph. At least eight homes were left with minor roof damage from falling trees. Several power lines were downed along with at least 200 uprooted trees, according to NWS.
