A report of a tornado touching down near Henning at 2:22 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, had Wadena County on high alert as it appeared the storm was headed northeast towards Wadena this afternoon.
Henning police/fire chief Mike Helle said a tornado touched down about 2 miles south of Henning, in Otter Tail County, damaging crops near County Road 65 and Hwy 134. The tornado didn’t last long, according to Helle. The main victim seemed to be a wheat crop that could be seen stuck in power lines along the road in a submitted photo.
Helle said a power company was on scene removing the debris from power lines shortly after the event. He expressed relief that the damage was minimal.
The National Weather Service issued a statement that conditions were favorable for the formation of a tornado throughout West Central Minnesota on Tuesday afternoon.
