OKAHUMPKA, Fla. —
The National Weather Service confirmed Monday that tornadoes touched down Saturday in Volusia and Lake counties.
The tornado in Volusia County was a EF-1, while the twister in Lake County was an EF-0.
Preliminary information from the National Weather Service Melbourne survey team said the tornado in Lake County occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Estimated peak winds were 65-75 mph along a discontinuous 2.31-mile path and 0.1-mile-wide path in Okahumpka, officials said.
The preliminary assessment found significant roof damage to three to five mobile homes, one large oak tree toppled and numerous large branches of weak and old trees scattered.
The majority of the damage in the area appeared to have occurred in the Holiday RV Village.
In Volusia County, the tornado touched down in DeLand around 11:25 a.m.
The tornado touched down near Woodward Avenue Elementary and ended four minutes later near Colorado and New York avenues.
The estimated peak winds were 90-100 mph along a continuous 3-mile path. The preliminary assessment shows that several large trees toppled, numerous large branches blown down and two homes had major roof damage.
Parts of the roof were torn off of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall on Alabama Avenue in DeLand and at nearby Melching Field officials said trees were down and bleachers and a batting cage were blown around.
DeLand city officials said there could be upward of $25,000 in damage.
